What is COMPUTER-AIDED ENGINEERING (CAE) and advantage of CAE in today world?

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) is branch of engineering where the use of computer softwares to provide engineering analysis of products.

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) software system provide support to business of industries. In past, Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) also used in the description of computer technology. In 1970s, the word Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) was introduced by Jason Lemon, founder of SDRC. Presently it is also known as CAx and PLM.

CAE provides various type of analysis:

  • Finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Multibody Dynamics (MBD)
  • Optimization Analysis

The tools which are used to perform Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) task are known as CAE tools. CAE tools are used to analysis the performance of the products, which may include components and assemblies. CAE system helps in defines Simulating, Validating and Optimizing of the components. CAE software system provide help to design team in decision making.

CAE provide various analysis:

  • CAE provide Stress Analysis for parts and assembly using Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • CAE also provide Thermal and Fluid Flow Analysis Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • CAE provide Analysis for Simulation of Casting, Molding and Die press forming etc. , manufacturing process.
  • CAE provide Optimization Analysis for products and processes.

Any CAE process include 3 steps phase:

  • Pre-processing
  • Analysis Solver
  • Post- processing

·         Pre- processing – It define the model and also boundary conditions applied on model.
·         Analysis Solver – It use various solver used for different condition.
·         Post processing – It display the result in the different formats like graphs, charts and contours. It visual give the result of the model, where model take more force acting on it in the contour.

Iteration are done various times in the solver process, for the optimization of the product.

CAE software system used in-

Extremely in the Automotive, Aerospace and Aviation. It helps the industries to reduce product development cost and time. It improve safety, comfort and durability of the product produced. It helps in the predicting the area where design has to improve in the product. It reduce the cost of physical prototype testing. Presently, still some company preferred the prototype testing of the product for results. But, they also used CAE software system to improve the design and verification. CAE cannot predict the exact result, but close to it and some area where CAE cannot provide the result accurately.

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) software system used in many industry fields:

  • Automotive
  •  Aviation
  • Aerospace
  • Shipbuilding and many others.

It is one of emerging and growing field in the engineering disciplines. Virtual prototyping is done with the help of Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) software system. It provide you strong background of the computational methods and numerical methods. Also provide the knowledge of program language like C++, C+, Fortan and Python. CAE provide the computation in engineering like both in structures and fluids.

CAE provide analysis for wide group of engineering domains:

  •  Finite Element Analysis
  • Linear and Non-linear structural analysis
  • Fatigue analysis
  • Crash analysis
  • Thermal analysis
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Multibody Dynamics
  • Mechanism Analysis
